Invitation and Event Overview

Dr. Arnell was invited by Gary Brohard, Director for the Veteran Mentor Program in Calhoun County, Alabama for the Calhoun County Veterans Court, to speak about the mission of 22ZERO. On August 1st, Dr. Arnell spoke to veterans, the Calhoun County Judge, Congressman, Senators, representatives from the Governor’s office along with veteran graduates about the mission of 22ZERO. The event had a celebration with six veterans successfully graduating the Veteran Court program.

Veterans’ Stories and Graduation Celebration

Each veteran shared their stories about the impact of being involved with the Calhoun County Veterans Court and how they have overcome many challenges. The courtroom was full and had so much love and support for the veteran graduates. Dr. Arnell shared how 22ZERO would be of assistance, at no cost for veterans, their spouses, and minor children living in the home. “It was an honor and privilege for me to attend and represent 22ZERO and share our mission of healing trauma, without sharing any traumatic content, completely confidential using a peer-to-peer program.”

What is the Calhoun County Veterans Court?

Mission and Objectives

The mission of a Veteran Treatment Court is to divert a justice-involved Veteran that will be required to meet strict requirements from a traditional criminal justice system that will provide them with tools to lead a productive and law-abiding life.

Participation and Benefits

Veterans are offered the opportunity to participate in the court on a voluntary basis. Those that choose to go into the program must attend regular court status conferences, participate in the development of their treatment plans, and engage in community groups as required. By doing so, that veteran will then have his or her charges deferred pending successful completion of the Calhoun County Veterans Court treatment plan, at which time the charges will be dismissed.

Support and Collaboration

These Courts also link Veterans with services, benefits, and program providers, including the VA, Veterans Service Organizations, and Volunteer Veteran Mentors. Dr. Arnell shared how 22ZERO would be of assistance, at no cost for veterans, their spouses, and minor children living in the home. There are many who are working hard to have a Veteran Treatment Court in all Counties in Alabama, and 22ZERO is committed to working with the Courts to heal our veterans.
